The Curiosity
Under the arcade, next to the entrance to the museum, there is a strange inscription:
"Against Ministers of the Directors of Mani Morte".
We understand that this is the site where they could be sent to the anonymous delinquencies of citizens to report abnormal situations or deemed incorrect caused by the appropriate officers (Ministers) who had to control the real estate belonging to religious institutions, such as churches and confraternities (so-called ' dead hands', which escaped public taxes on the succession as they remained forever, or at least for very long times of centuries, of the same ecclesiastical owner).
If the complaints proved to be well founded and involved the payment of fines, usually the proceeds were divided between the Municipality (1/3), the Official who collected the fine (1/3) and the delatore (1/3), for which could also be guaranteed anonymity.
